As Hans Weber Maschinenfabrik’s installed machine base continued to grow, its existing remote maintenance solution could no longer keep pace. By implementing the IXON Cloud, they transformed remote maintenance into a centralized digital service platform, which has become an integral part of the company's service offering.
Hans Weber Maschinenfabrik is an established machine manufacturer specializing in grinding technology, extrusion and automation. As its global machine fleet expanded, the company looked for a scalable way to improve service efficiency while preparing for future digital services.
Challenge
Although Hans Weber already offered remote access, the solution was becoming increasingly difficult to scale.
Only a small group of employees had access, service processes relied heavily on individual expertise and technicians had to navigate through multiple machine menus to find the information they needed. As more machines were connected, it became clear that remote access alone was no longer sufficient.
The company wanted a solution that could centralize machine data, support multiple user groups, integrate with existing systems and provide a foundation for future applications such as customer portals and ticketing workflows.
At the same time, growing cybersecurity requirements, including the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), the EU Data Act and increasing customer expectations, made secure and compliant remote connectivity more important than ever.
Solution
To support its growing service organization, Hans Weber implemented the IXON Cloud as the foundation for its digital service platform.
Beyond secure remote access, the platform provides centralized dashboards, granular user management and seamless integration with existing interfaces such as OPC UA. As a result, machine data became easier to access and use throughout the organization without requiring custom-built solutions.

Security and compliance also played an important role. IXON's IEC 62443-4-2 certified edge gateways, together with internationally recognized ISO certifications, encrypted VPN connections, integrated firewall functionality, role-based access control, Secure Boot, and TPM-based key management, provide the secure infrastructure required to meet modern customer and regulatory requirements.
"The overall performance of the system has received significant positive feedback internally. It's a product we wouldn't want to be without."
– Timo Horn, Head of After-Sales Service at Hans Weber Maschinenfabrik
Result
The impact was immediately visible across the service organization.
Instead of spending time searching for machine data, service engineers now use centralized dashboards to quickly diagnose issues and prepare service calls more effectively. "Today we solve significantly more problems remotely than we could before,” says Timo Horn. This has improved both service efficiency and the overall customer experience.

The platform has also been adopted by many more employees across the organization thanks to its flexible access management.
Key results
- Approximately 50 active users, compared to around 10-12 previously.
- 180 connected machines.
- Every new machine is connected by default.
- Significantly more issues resolved remotely instead of through on-site visits.
- Faster diagnostics through direct access to machine data.
- Better preparation for service calls.
- Higher service quality and a more professional customer experience.
Customers benefit as well. Improved access to machine data provides greater transparency, faster support and complete control over who can access their machines. Service engineers can often assess machine conditions before initiating a remote session, enabling faster and more informed support.

Looking ahead
What started as a remote maintenance solution has evolved into the foundation of Hans Weber's digital service strategy.
The company now uses IXON to remote service in locations without network infrastructure through its mobile "IXON service case” and for digital service packages that combine traditional and digital support.
Today, IXON is more than an internal tool, it has become an integral part of Hans Weber's service offering and provides the scalable foundation needed for future digital business models.
