Conny Kuenen

In this edition of our Employee Spotlight, we sat down with Conny Kuenen, Production Employee, to learn more about her role, what inspires her, and what it’s like to be part of the IXON team. 

What did you do before joining IXON?

Conny: “Before joining IXON, I worked with Willem’s wife in the greenhouses, which were located in the same building as IXON in Overloon. I often came into IXON’s cafeteria during breaks and for various tasks related to my work in the greenhouse. At that time, only a few men worked at IXON. Little did I know that a few years later, I would be working there myself!

A few years later, I was asked if I would like to spend an afternoon working with the production team to see whether producing routers might be something for me. Help… a router? I had no idea what that was, how it worked or what this world was all about. But that one afternoon turned into a week, and then a month. And now, 8.5 years later, I’m still working here. I’ve seen a lot of routers pass through over the years!”

What do you do at IXON, and what do you enjoy most about your job?

"I work as a Production Employee. Together with several colleagues, we take care of everything related to assembling a router from A to Z, making sure it is ready to be shipped in perfect condition to destinations all over the world."

What accomplishment are you most proud of at IXON?

"In May 2024, we produced the 100,000th IX3 router. Together with a colleague, I secretly helped make sure we could turn that moment into a very special morning, allowing many colleagues to celebrate it with us. I’m also proud of not backing down during a team-building day, when I completed a storm course as the oldest female employee."

Conny’s experience, knowledge, and positive energy make her an invaluable part of our team. She’s always there for her colleagues and makes the workplace more enjoyable for everyone.

Why do you enjoy working at IXON?

"Over the years, I’ve worked with colleagues of many different ages, which brings lots of stories and experiences. Especially when IXON was still smaller, you knew everyone and were involved in almost everyone’s work.

That’s no longer possible now that there are so many teams and colleagues abroad. But it still keeps me interested, and there is always something new to learn, especially in the shared language everyone speaks when we have colleagues from other countries.

I’m also still amazed by everything that is organised outside our regular work: activities in the cafeteria, team outings, treats for everyone to enjoy, and the wonderful gifts we receive for special holidays and occasions."

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

"Besides everything that comes with having a family, there is always plenty to do. I try to spend quite a bit of time reading, especially informative topics related to human health and wellbeing. I also attend quite a few workshops and longer or shorter courses that can support the human body.

Walking also takes up many hours of my free time. I walked the Pieterpad in the Netherlands from north to south on my own, which required quite a lot of logistical planning and problem-solving.

Being creative is another hobby of mine, in various ways. Although unfortunately less than I did many years ago. These days, when I take part in walking events for different causes (I recently completed the Nijmeegse 4daagse for the fifth time, and a few years ago I climbed Alpe d’Huez), I try to make fun keepsakes for fellow walkers or spectators.

Fun fact: At IXON, and previously at an amusement park where I worked, I work in the same team as my daughter. This had never happened at either of my employers before."
